Since I can hear my mic and the speakers and headphones work fine, it must be my routing in studio one that is the issue.
the wave file is just a straight line with nothing. as I said, I can hear my mic and the great river preamp is registering the mic signal but nothing is being recorded in the track.
The imput setting in studio one 4 song set up is - *input 1 - line 1 +4 and input 2 is set to "mic"*. I can hear my mic, the great river pre is registering the mic, and so is the external compressor registering the mic, but the track is not capturing the signal so there is no wave file or anything being recorded. But today I tried to record for the first time since I transferred to my new computer and when I arm the track to record, I set It to input 1 on the track (which input 1 is the input I have set to +4 on the duet 2 maestro 2 in order to bypass the duet 2 pre and use the great river). it works fine when i pulled up my latests songs to mix. My duet 2 works fine playing back music on iTunes. I just bought a new iMac (2017 version running macOS Mojave version 10.14) and installed studio one version 4 (updated to latest version).

Run Audacity (I am running 1.3.5b) on the MacBook, set Default sample rate to 96000 Hz, leave Default sample format (what Audacity uses internally) as 32 bit float and check Duet is selected for I/O (under Audacity prefs) 3. I've always used my duet 2 interface with an external preamp (great rive me-1nv), so I bypass the preamp on my input 1 of my duet. Check Core Audio is set for the Duet I/O and also set at 24/96 (Audio Midi Setup) 2. My pro audio experience dates back to when a PT TDM rig was limited to 8 tracks, but even if I were "just" an audiophile, so long as one is dealing with lossless formats (or even 320 kbps, really) quality D/A makes a difference. There - feel better now, knowing I'm not some kid? Don't be a snob. What is this "just" you speak of? Logic and Pro Tools aren't locked into proprietary interfaces anymore (well, to the best of my knowledge, Logic never was, but PT spent too many years being tied to Digi gear. Is there a D/A? converter under $500 with even better sound quality than an Apogee Duet? All I need are L/R in and L/R/ out (not including a headset jack). I'm really happy with Minis - I've been using them for years).

These problems don't happen a lot, and they usually resolve themselves quickly, but I'm growing tired of them, and since my Duet is the old firewire version, I might as well look into upgrading before Apple stops putting firewire in Mac Minis (since I'm 99% sure my next Mac will also be a Mini. I went back to iTunes, but that audio failed too. I paused iTunes and switched over to play a file in the finder, but I got no audio. For example, if iTunes is playing and I get an email, all sound may cut out, or I might just get a bit of digital noise. The issues I'm experiencing are audio cutting out when more than one app is creating sound at the same time. Granted, I'm guessing that upgrading to the USB Duet 2 would fix the issues - maybe - but I'm wondering if I should be looking at another device. I own a firewire Apogee Duet on a Mac Mini running the latest version of OSX Mavericks, and I'm growing weary of the audio issues that creep up.
